The ACCUSTIC ARTS® „Bi-Wiring“ filter stage
Why should a current signal be filtered at all?
The alternating current, we get from our power station is not only supplying the necessary alternating voltage. But also a huge variety of distortions, which have a high negative impact on the sound quality of audio signals.
The distortions can be external and evolving from:
- High frequency-distortions for example caused by radio stations, TV broadcasting, cellular phone networks etc.
- Hum pick-ups, resulting for example from different earth connecting points of the referring hifi and high-end audio units.
- DC voltage-distortions caused by other current consumers in your home, like vacuum cleaner, hair dryer etc.
- Sizzling and clicking caused during operation of Thermostats, boilers etc.
- Additional interferences and influences from the individual surrounding during the day
Yet the distortions can also be of internal nature, e.g caused by operation of CD- or DVD-Player, surround processor, 100Hz-TV screen and others themselves. These interferences are not to be underestimated as the distortion signal can unhampered spread its negative effect due to the closeness to the other music components like preamplifiers, amplifiers etc.
These distortions have to be avoided or tremendously reduced. Therefore special filter stages are necessary, which on the one hand filter out the distortion signal preferably completely and one the other hand do not influence the music signal. Due to this filtering the sound can be improved tremendously in case of existing mains-borne interferences.4.2 How does the “Bi-Wiring” principle of the POWER STRIP ACTIVE 6 / 8 work?
The ACCUSTIC ARTS® „Bi-Wiring“ principle separates the filter stages into an analog and a digital area and supplies both areas with separate cables. Due to this reason the shielded power cord of the POWER STRIP ACTIVE 6 / 8 contains not only 3 but 5 electric conductors with a cross section of 5 x 2.5 mm2. At each case two electric conductors supply the analog respectively the digital filter section. The 5th electric conductor is the sharing earth connecting point and has been designed and elaborated central for avoidance of potential differences.
By the means of separating analog and digital filter section not only can the external distortions effectively be suppressed but also the internal distortions into the mains supply like the digital interferences coming from a CD- or DVD-Player. A CD-Player which is connected to the sockets of the digital filter section can not influence a preamplifier which is connected to the analog section. This leads to an enormous improvement of the sound performance.
